The Lost Observer Article
Perhaps this is a story we might we might see in a local newspaper.
Hello Charlotte, oh we mean hello everywhere outside of the downtown loop.
Once in a while we run something the the REAL paper for you. Yes we could have run it in our ad laden Next Door Neighbors section but since we are trying to appear fair we want to show you just how fair a newspaper we are. We hear that all the time that we are a fair newspaper.
So here is an account of a person who wasted their time to go to Washington from the Charlotte area. In fact he is from Mint Hill which is somewhere out near Independence Blvd as you go to the beach.
Anyway here is this guys report: I flew into BWI and took a rental to Silver Springs and got the Red Line to the Metro Station.
Walked two or three blocks to the Freedom Square and it was packed as far as you could see.
I started with the group that had already started down Pennsylvania Ave and all you could see was people wall to wall walking.
We walked down and could not get any closer than third street to the Capitol as the crowds were too big. Remember we started at 13th Street and the blocks are long in Washington.
Then I could barely see past the Smithsonian lawn on my right over to the lawn and mall area but that is where most of the people were and it went as far as you could see.
I heard the crowd was packed in there all the way back to the White House.
I asked a couple who were leaving was it over as we were so far back you could not hear the loud speakers they set up way back for overflow, they said now they had to drive back West (I forgot where) and it took them thirty minutes to get to where we were from about half way to the front.
It was great!
To keep it in perspective, keep in mind that each of the these Senators and Congress People are elected by a couple of hundred thousand votes and Obama got a couple of hundred in each State. So now we have this large a number of average taxpaying citizens to take vacations in a lot of cases to go to Washington to show they care about our country. If they ignore this event I can only imagine how large our next event will be. I did tell you I went back on April 15th and we were all up in Lafayette Park and it was a smalllllllll group. I loved seeing this many and it made me proud to be a member of this crowd.
Oh and the weather was a concern. At first it was expected to be hot and humid. Then on my way in it started sprinkles. But when we got to marching the sun would pop out once in a while for a few minutes but it was comfortable and the clouds kept the sun from baking us.
You could not have asked for a more perfect day.
